This has been a very bad month for Disney in what, I predict, will be a very bad year for the behemoth. If the past couple weeks are any indication, it’s conceivable to imagine that by the end of 2020 the downfall of Disney as we know it will come to pass.
If you recall, there are some 90+ accusers who allege Harvey Weinstein either sexually assaulted or out right raped them. It’s taken a little while, but people are starting to wonder, “hey, wait a minute, if everyone knew what Harvey did and this was an open secret, who enabled Harvey Weinstein for all those years?”
The answer to that very important burning question is…wait for it…The Walt Disney Corporation.
On August 28th Paz de la Huerta, one of Weinstein’s alleged victims, turned the heat up about a billion degrees on tinsel town when she filed charges against Disney’s CEO Bob Iger and former CEO Michael Eisner, as well as former Miramax Chairman Bob Weinstein, citing ‘negligent supervision and intentional infliction of emotional distress,’ as well as further claims against Disney of ‘negligent supervision and violation of federal sex trafficking statutes.’
That’s a biggie right there!
You better believe that news dropped like Thor’s hammer careening down from the heavens and smashing through the $100,000 glass table in the CAA board room.
Paz’s lawsuit, her going after parent company Disney, and the specific individuals at the top, is like a gauntlet being thrown down. She’s reminding people who’ve been abused within this system (hint: everyone allowed into this system) ‘hey, you know what you can do, you can sue the motherfuckers.’
That’s why this week’s latest Hollywood bombshell, that Disney child star Jordan Pruitt has filed a lawsuit accusing her former manager, Keith Thomas, of sexually abusing, including drugging and anally raping her, beginning when she was 14 years old, is so incredibly massive.
Following in the badass footsteps of our friend Paz, Jordan Pruitt is also suing her former record label, Hollywood Records, and its parent company, the Walt Disney Corporation, alleging that they had failed to prevent the abuse. The suit alleges that Disney’s Hollywood Records specifically compelled her to work with Keith Thomas as her mentor and producer, and that they allowed him to be unsupervised, even though it knew or should have known that he was a sexual abuser.
So who and what is Hollywood Records?
Hollywood Records, Inc. is an American record label of the Disney Music Group. Super starlet Zendaya, who starred with Bella Thorne on Shake It Up, is on its current roster of artists.
Bella Thorne, if you remember, recently began revealing the ongoing, systemic child sex abuse she endured during the years she starred in the Disney Channel show Shake It Up with fellow child star Zendaya. Bella’s new book, which has been a #1 bestseller for weeks since it’s summer release, is said to go into detail about the abuse she suffered under Disney’s watch.
Hollywood Records is a music label at the highest level. Pruitt’s abuser, Keith Thomas, is a highly-acclaimed, veteran, Nashville producer. A powerful person, surrounded by powerful people. I mention this because everyone is always screaming at child stars to, “name the abuser!” Well, Jordan Pruitt bravely named him, and it should give you an idea of the kinds of powerful people we are talking about here. Hopefully the world will start to comprehend how utterly terrifying and beyond intimidating it’s long been for the victims to publicly name these high level Hollywood people as pedophiles.
That’s what’s so significant about this particular case. It gives us a very good glimpse into how it all works. And by ‘it’ I mean ‘the entertainment mind control machine.’
Keith Thomas, Hollywood Handler
Thomas hit it big with the Amy Grant single “Baby Baby,” in the early 2000s. Since, he has worked largely with teenaged female singers, including Jordan Pruitt. In 2013, he starred on “Chasing Nashville,” a short-lived Lifetime (DISNEY) reality show that followed four girls striving for country music stardom.
Pruitt signed with Disney’s Hollywood Records as a 14-year-old in 2005. She released two albums in 2007 and 2008.
She’s quoted in Variety this week saying, “As I filmed my music video, ‘Jump to the Rhythm’ (used for the 2007 Disney Channel TV movie ‘Jump In!’), those eyes were watching my every move,” she said. “As I watch this video back now, I see this young girl laughing and smiling, but inside I was feeling trapped.
“At fifteen this person [Keith Thomas] had brainwashed me into thinking that the things that were happening were ‘natural’ and ‘okay.’ ”
“While I will spare you any of the mind-piercing details, I can honestly and unfortunately say that this man sexually abused me for almost two years of my life. I am a victim of child molestation because of him.”
So, exactly who is this Keith Thomas? A music business veteran, he has worked with Vanessa Williams, Faith Hill, Celine Dion, Jon Secada, Michael Bolton, Luther Vandross, 98 Degrees, Mandy Moore, and a long list of others. He’s won 6 Grammy Awards and has received a slew of nominations for Producer of the Year, Song of the Year and Record of the Year.
It’s fair to say, this is a man whom those at the top echelon of the entertainment business have known quite well for decades.
The lawsuit Pruitt has filed claims that ‘Thomas groomed Pruitt for abuse, controlling her entire professional life, cutting off contact with boys her own age, and putting her down with negative comments about her looks and talents.’
The suit also alleges that ‘he would also shower her with compliments, saying he loved her and that no one understood how “special” their relationship was.’
According to the complaint, Thomas also groomed her mother, gaining her trust, which enabled him to spend time alone with Pruitt.
Pruitt alleges that the abuse began when she was 14, and continued until a week before her 16th birthday. She claims that it involved kissing, oral sex, and that Thomas took her virginity – so rape. She also alleges that on one occasion, she was drugged and anally penetrated – so anal rape.
Pruitt alleges that the abuse occurred at the Staples Center, on sound stages at the Warner Bros. lot, in artists’ trailers, hotel rooms, and in parked cars, all of which, it could easily be argued, Disney was aiding and abetting.
Yes folks, this is gut wrenching stuff. This horrific child abuse, we are learning, seems to be part and parcel to the life of child stars.
Many wonder, how have we not known this is happening? Because, according to Pruitt, Thomas told her that “their love was a secret.” Because she herself only became fully aware of the abusive nature of the relationship last December, at the age of 26. Because it is terrifyingly easy to mess with the mind of a child.
Pruitt took to Facebook in December revealing that she had been molested as a teenager. At the time she did not reveal the abuser.
The lawsuit also names Thomas’ Nashville based music production and management company, Levosia Entertainment, as a defendant.
I reached out to Levosia Entertainment, asking for Keith Thomas’ side of the story to include in this article. As of this writing the company has not returned comment. If they respond, I will update.
Pruitt is now writing a book about her experience, “Abuse Anonymous.”
Stay tuned for much more from Jordan Pruitt and, God willing, every other child star who was abused in this Hollywood system.
